What are Your Thoughts? April 2006
writes, "State-wide Smoking Ban
The Colorado General Assembly and Governor Bill Owens recently passed and signed into law a state-wide smoking ban in all restaurants, bars, and most public places.
While in no way would I suggest that smoking is anything but an unhealthy and physically destructive habit, not only for the smoker, but for all those around that are forced to breath second hand smoke.
"
However, smoking is not illeagal.
Your elected officials, whether, local or state-wide, should, and must enact laws and legislature to protect all its citizens. The law stopping individuals from smoking in public places will do very little, if anything to curb the tremendous cost that tax payers contribute to health care costs.
A few exemptions to the law were included in this legislature, including, casinos and Denver International Airport smoking lounges. This law does not consider the hundreds of small Colorado businesses it will affect. Why was the ski industry, and those towns that serve the thousands of out of state tourists in which our mountaiPoint being, aren't local towns and municipalities better suited to impose smoking bans on their citizens? Better yet, why not let an individual business decide what clientele and customers it wishes to cater.

Our question to you:
Should we impose a state-wide smoking ban?
Should cities and towns pass a smoking ban on an individual basis?
or
Should it be left up to the individual business if they should allow smoking in their office, restaurant, or bar?
