admin writes, "Transportation Fee for Bus StudentsThe St. Vrain Valley School District and the Board of Education is set to impose and implement a new fee for students that ride the bus to school. Based on a recommendation by their transportation task force, St. Vrain Valley Schools will propose and likely implement a new fee based structure to increase revenues for the district. The fees will not necessarily pay all of the cost of bus transportation of our students, but will add much needed revenue to the general fund for all academic programs.

Due to the ever increasing costs of educational programs and the need to keep academic programs not only current, but affordable, the school district is seeking ways to offset expenses. With the recent failure at procuring funds through increased taxes via mill levies, the administrators must come up with viable alternatives to increase revenue and reduce unneeded expenditures.
The proposed monthly cost per bus student will range between $26 to $29 per month. That equates to $234 to $261 per year, per student. The school districts hopes to realize a $1.8 million increase in revenues for other academic programs.
Our question to you: Are you in favor of a transportation fee for bus students?
