Douglas' passion for trees began in 1977 when he was planting trees with the Marmots, a forestry-work cooperative in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to giving literally millions of small ones their start in life, his apprenticeship as a tree surgeon began during this time, as he learned to climb and work in very large trees. His keen enjoyment of the art of cooking also has its roots in this time, as the Marmot would camp in the woods in yurts, tents, and assorted vehicles (called "crummies"), and collaborate on meals and the other necessities of life. In 1989 he moved to Boulder, and worked as a foreman for Boulder Tree Service, and Hayes Tree Service, establishing a reputation as one of the most highly-skilled arborists in the Front Range area. Douglas began his own tree care business in 2005, and he and his clients have been enjoying the results of a direct working relationship ever since. His activities in the tree community include being a volunteer judge for the Rocky Mountain Tree Climbing Competition, and helping belay kids of all ages up a tree at Longmont's Arbor Days.
Since it's a family affair, Lori and 6-year-old D. are also involved. Lori's degree in business administration helps her manage all the details that are part of running a business, and she is committed to providing personalized service and making sure the customer is completely satisfied. Then there is young D., who is a bigger help than he realizes--he loves to be with his "Da", and from time to time you may see him in the field supervising, or disposing of brush.
