"From Humble Beginnings.........."
By John Maher, Volunteer

Twenty years ago, a visionary and innovator, Alan Landes, the pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, organized a series of public meetings to talk about the need for improved basic needs services in the city. These meetings were in reaction to two seemingly catastrophic events that took place in Longmont that would change the community forever. First, the religous organization that managed the emergency food pantry closed its doors. Then, a church that provided the food and clothing to those in need was forced to close its doors due to an increase in demand and budget short falls.

writes, "The Longmont Small Business Association is committed to providing resources, training and networking scaled to small businesses in the Greater Longmont Area. They work hard to support local businesses by cultivating a "choose small business first" culture.

Small business is what gives our communities their flavor — making them the unique towns we love to live and work in. We recognize the difficulty of running a successful small business and the need for an organization that focuses on small business. The Longmont Small Business Association (LSBA) is such an organization. The LSBA brings local small businesses together to foster individual success as well as the success of small business in general throughout our community.

in 1998 in Los Angeles, California, as a favor to a friend! That's right, a favor! He had been doing video projects of his own for a few years, when a friend asked him to put together a video montage of his parents' anniversary party. How did it turn out? Well, they truly loved it! And Adam has been busy ever since! He was immediately asked for some business cards, yet he did not have any! Lucky for Adam, all that was needed was a napkin and his phone number!

writes, "3D Tree Care, based in Longmont, Colorado, is a family-owned business dedicated to providing quality tree care and exceptional customer service. Douglas, Lori, and D. Hewitt bring their enthusiasm and extensive experience to each project they take on, with many healthy trees and satisfied clients around the area. Douglas' passion for trees began in 1977 when he was planting trees with the Marmots, a forestry-work cooperative in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to giving literally millions of small ones their start in life, his apprenticeship as a tree surgeon began during this time, as he learned to climb and work in very large trees. His keen enjoyment of the art of cooking also has its roots in this time, as the Marmot would camp in the woods in yurts, tents, and assorted vehicles (called "crummies"), and collaborate on meals and the other necessities of life.
