Three high performance skydivers will literally jump into the Taste of Longmont as part of a special opening ceremony at 5:30pm on Saturday, June 17.
"Join us as we jump start the Taste in a whole different way this year!" said Tracy Taylor-Sea, Event Manager for the Chamber. "You and your family will be entertained from the moment you arrive at the Fairgrounds."
Headlining the Taste this year is singer and songwriter Wendy Woo who will be joined by her backup band, The Woo Crew. Ms. Woo is known for her wide-ranging, original songs grounded in pure emotion.
The sound of sizzling grills as the Taste heats up is music to many people's ears. Longmont's chefs will be cooking up a storm and will include longtime participants Mike O'Shays Restaurant and Ale House and Pumphouse Brewery.
Another returning favorite, The Red Lobster, will be serving Lobster Bisque, according to manager Adam Thimsen. "The bisque is now a permanent part of our menu," said Mr. Thimsen, "not a once a year special." Mr. Thimsen and his staff will be spreading the word and serving up lots of bisque, in addition to three other seafood specials.
Chef Seth Sandstrum of the Pumphouse comes back because the Taste "gets us out there, and we can let people know that we offer good food and a good value." Pumphouse offerings at the Taste will include their signature ales and beers to accompany Caribbean Pork Chops and Cilantro-Lime Shrimp tacos.
An assortment of newcomers will be on hand as well, including Ichiban Japanese Restaurant. Again seafood is the star, which will take the delectable form of Sushi and Sushi Rolls.
Angelo Vega of the Armadillo Border Grill--a 35-year-old Longmont mainstay--has high hopes for the restaurant's very first appearance at Taste of Longmont. "People will get a taste of what traditional Mexican cooking is all about," said Mr. Vega. "We'll be serving Tacos al Pastor-or tacos from the country-made with marinated pork and chunks of pineapple. They're just one of the more than twenty new items we've added to the menu at Armadillo."
The participating restaurants will be offering a smorgasbord of cuisines. Premium wines, microbrews, draft beer, soft drinks, and coffee are all part of the ticket price.
A variety of vendors will also be showcased in an open bazaar setting and will feature Longmont area businesses and services. Also back by popular demand is Kids Zone, which will include a play area, balloon artists, and much more.
All admissions are all-inclusive, and include food from participating restaurants, drinks including wine and beer, and entertainment including Wendy Woo and The Woo Crew.
"The taste of Longmont is the perfect recipe for a perfect summer evening, and a perfect Father's Day gift," said Ms. Taylor-Sea. "Don't miss it!"
